Vision In Sports

It stands to reason that different sports place a variety of demands on the visual system depending on factors individual to each sport such as :

  • the speed and size of ball / puck / shuttlecock
  • whether the athlete is static or in motion
  • the distance to the target
  • whether the target is fixed or in motion
  • peripheral awareness, including other players
  • the risk of trauma damage caused by impact or abrasion
  • lighting conditions and glare
  • environmental conditions - rain, wind, mud and dust
  • fatigue and dehydration
